INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Socialblood offers you a simple way to connect with blood donors in your community, by sharing your information and searching for other’s information online. Socialblood also allows you to share your stories, earn rewards, keep up to date with local blood bank news, and interact with other Socialblood donors and people in need. Your willingness to share information is what makes Socialblood work.
We may ask you to provide certain personal information when you use Socialblood. In general, we collect personal information you voluntarily provide when, for example, you register to use Socialblood, modify your profile, contact us, or otherwise interact with Socialblood services.
I. Information Collected During Registration
Blood Type and other Medical Information. Socialblood is primarily a service to connect blood donors and people in need in their local communities. This allows you to share personal medical information, in particular, your blood type, publically. For those who place a blood request, you will be asked to provide the hospital name and address, and a description of the person who needs blood, as well as whether you are requesting Red Blood Cells, whole blood or plasma.
Location Information. We collect users’ geographical location, limited to city and state, during registration if users voluntarily disclose this information. Socialblood uses this information to create a map so that Socialblood users, hospitals, and blood banks can see other users who are donating blood in their geographic area.
Contact Information. You are required to provide an email address to receive notification when you sign up for the service. Also, in order to connect with others to donate, or receive a donation, you will need to provide your contact information, in particular, a telephone number to contact you.
II. Social Media
Some areas of Socialblood may use plugins from social media platforms such as “Tweet” from Twitter and “Like” from Facebook. If you utilize these functions, these social media platforms may collect information about your visit to Socialblood and connect that information to your account on that social media platform. For more information on how these social media platforms use your information, please review their privacy policies.
III. Technical Information
Socialblood also collects technical information about users’ interactions with our Service online. Each time you visit a website, log information is automatically reported by your browser. When you visit Socialblood, our servers automatically record certain log information such as your IP address, the browser you use, the number of times you access the website, pages viewed, and other similar information. The technical information that we collect from you is not linked to any personal information you provide to Socialblood. We simply collect this information to enhance the user experience by improving the functionality and features of our website.
HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
Blood Requests and Blood Donation. One of the primary functions of the Socialblood website is to provide a platform for users to donate and request blood by matching potential donors and recipients who are located within a specific geographic area. For example, when a user creates a blood request, a notification is sent to all Socialblood users with a matching or compatible blood type located within a specific radius from where the request was generated. If a user wishes to donate blood after receiving the request, she must click on an icon designating so. The user will then receive a prompt asking if she agrees to permit Socialblood to share her personal information—including BLOOD TYPE—with the user who created the blood request. Once the user commits to proceed with the blood donation, a notification will be sent to the user who created the request along with the donor’s information.
